Grounded and weightless

Gautier Capuçon discovered the cello at the age of five: »I just knew that the instrument belonged to me«, he recalls. »There is something very grounded about the cello, in the truest sense of the word, it has its spine on the floor. It comes closest to the human body, you literally hug it. For a child, there's something natural and playful about it.« Despite the »down-to-earth« nature of his instrument, Gautier Capuçon achieves true musical heights: with the Filarmonica della Scala and Riccardo Chailly on the podium, he dedicates himself to Antonín Dvořák's demanding cello concerto.  Luciano Berio's large-scale but rarely heard »4 dédicades« will also be performed. Prokofiev's ballet music for »Romeo and Juliet« is also richly and diversely orchestrated and overwhelms with tenderly melting melodies and powerful rhythms: Chailly and »his« orchestra create an essence of the three orchestral suites.
