It's the beauty!
Elisabeth Leonskaja needs no introduction - especially in Vienna. Whether in recitals, as a soloist or in chamber music evenings: She can be heard regularly at the Wiener Konzerthaus. Leonskaja works closely with the string quartet of the Staatskapelle Berlin, which was formed in 2016 from the four string section leaders of the traditional Berlin orchestra to form a permanent ensemble. The pianist and the ensemble, which has been praised for its homogeneity, will perform a highly romantic evening with works by Mendelssohn, Brahms and Schumann: it begins with Mendelssohn's poignant and revolutionary String Quartet in F minor op. 80, which he composed after the loss of his beloved sister Fanny in 1847, the year of his own death. After Brahms' Piano Quartet 3 in C minor op. 60, full of sighing figures and pathos, we finally hear Robert Schumann's Piano Quintet in E flat major op. 44, about which Richard Wagner wrote: »I see where you want to go, and I assure you, I want to go there too: it is beauty!«
