Vienna without Viennese?

»What would Vienna be without Wiener«, asked Georg Kreisler in 1964 and had the answer ready: »As beautiful as a sleeping woman, the city park would certainly be much greener and the Danube would finally be so blue«. But what would Vienna be without the Viennese, namely the composer, librettist and playwright Hugo Wiener? Certainly only half as funny, say Katharina Straßer with Boris Fiala at the piano and Katharina Hohenberger with the Wiener Brut. Wiener wrote classics such as »Der Nowak lässt mich nicht verkommen« and »Ich wünsch' mir zum Geburtstag einen Vorderzahn« for his wife Cissy Kraner. But »Look at this ...«: He also created unforgettable works with the double conférences of cabaret artists Karl Farkas and Ernst Waldbrunn, not to mention his operetta libretti, musical comedies, film scripts, revues and radio plays. Enough material for a rich musical homage to the doyen of Viennese humor!
