Angela Merkel: Freedom
In a recent conversation with Barack Obama, Angela Merkel admitted that writing her book had been quite hard work, which she had underestimated. On December 2, she presented her recently published memoirs entitled »Freedom« during a conversation with the former ex-president in Washington. On February 24, the former German Chancellor will read from her 700-page work, which she wrote together with her long-time political advisor Beate Baumann, in the Mozart Hall. She was in government in Germany for 16 years, during a period that included crises such as the refugee crisis, the global economic crisis, the euro crisis and the Ukraine crisis. The first female chancellor provides insights behind the scenes of power and her decision-making in difficult situations. She also looks back on the first 35 years of her life in the GDR and provides insights into her private life, recounting her childhood, youth and studies as well as the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. And as the title suggests, her book is a clear plea for freedom.
