Multifaceted key figure
As a guardian of the heritage of modern jazz, the renowned American pianist and composer Emmet Cohen is also at the forefront of progress in today's jazz world. He received his first piano lessons at the age of three and was already performing at major jazz festivals by the age of 15. Cohen has won numerous prizes, was a finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition and was received by Barack Obama in the White House during his time as US President. With his trio, he launched the current social media jazz sensation »Live From Emmet's Place« right at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic: House concerts in front of a maximum of eight invited guests, but which reach fans all over the world via stream. Of course, Cohen is now travelling the globe again in real life: his performances have taken the partner of legendary musicians such as Ron Carter, Jimmy Cobb, Joe Farnsworth and Cedar Walton as well as current singers such as Cyrille Amée and Kurt Elling to England, Japan, Poland, Italy, Spain, Israel and many other countries. Following his debut alongside Samara Joy in 2022, he is now making his second guest appearance at the Wiener Konzerthaus - and also his first with his own trio, which will be joined by local great Thomas Gansch as a special guest.
