Fascinated by space and sound
Born and raised in Istanbul, Büşra Kayıkçı came into contact with art at an early age, especially ballet, painting and piano music, and was interested in the works of classical and contemporary artists from a wide variety of fields. After completing her studies in interior architecture and environmental design, she worked in the profession for three years before creating her first works in 2020, inspired by composers such as John Cage and Michael Nyman. Kayıkçı's minimalist compositions testify to her enthusiasm for trying to elicit new sounds from technically modified pianos, as well as her conviction "that when we listen to a song, we travel from space to space and from one time to another. When a melody moves us deeply, it creates a place for the mind and soul. Not only architects or engineers can construct a building. With their musical means, composers create an atmosphere that can transport the listener to cities, gardens and landscapes."
