Mark Twain: The 1,000,000 pound note
London, around 1880: Twain's satirical short story, set in the American »Gilded Age«, a period of prosperity after the Civil War, leads to England, where an American is stranded. A bet over a 1,000,000 pound note leads to entanglements. Twain reflects with a sharp pen the light and shadows of this heyday, in which rapid growth also led to strong social differences. Markus Meyer reads, Mitra Kotte interprets compositions by Georg Friedrich Händel and Robert Schumann.
