Fantastic orchestral sounds
Whether rapturous harp or mocking bassoon: with his »Symphonie fantastique«, which tells of his love for actress Harriet Smithson in five movements, Hector Berlioz expanded the orchestral apparatus in all its colorful richness and worked with unusual instruments such as ophicleide and serpent - after all, Berlioz is also the originator of an important theory of instrumentation that composers have been working with for generations. The Vienna Philharmonic performs this founding work of program music, preceded by a work by Bruno Hartl and the rarely heard bassoon concerto by André Jolivet. The soloist is Sophie Dervaux, principal bassoonist with the Vienna Philharmonic since 2015, who has ennobled her instrument with several outstanding solo CDs in recent years.
