Supposed idyll
Rural idyll in the family circle on the one hand, hectic city life on the other, where one is in danger of sinking into anonymity and confinement: »City Girl«, Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau's penultimate directorial work, is based on these contrasts. The love between the young, naïve and innocent farmer's son Lem and the attractive but lonely waitress Kate is put to the test in the middle of Minnesota's wheat fields. And Kate has to realize that even in the country she is searching in vain for the supposedly ideal world. French electronic star Arandel and pianist Édouard Ferlet accompany us into the world of external and internal contradictions at the start of the »Film + Music Live« cycle, lending the epic silent film drama from 1930 a new dimension of sound.
